Acrylic painting of a backyard in winter with arborvitae trees and a bird bath.

"Closed for Winter"

Most things shut down in the winter
It’s the darkest time of the year
But that doesn’t mean
We still cannot glean
Some happiness and some good cheer

There are lots of great things in the winter
Fun to be had in the cold
Ski, skate, or sled
A snow angel spread
Or a frosty snowman to be rolled

Most snowbirds fly south in the winter
They don’t stick around when it comes
They miss lights aglow
Kissing ‘neath mistletoe
And visions of sweet sugarplums

But perhaps the best thing about winter
Is the day of Jesus Christ’s birth
He came to save
Rise from the grave
And bring joy and peace to the Earth
