"Forty Steps to Solitude"

How long does it take to find solitude?
We rarely indulge it at best
Our lives are so busy and full of noise
When is it that we truly rest?

Distractions come at us from all around
Not just from where we live now
The whole world may so claim our time
More than we should ever allow

When do we ever put down the phone?
Take a breath and look at the sea?
When do we ever have time alone?
To just be ourselves and let be?

A human’s not meant to be a god
To have all the knowledge we hold
When will it take over, become too much?
What will the future unfold?
