Part of a series on the cliff walk in Newport, Rhode Island; these steps are a historic landmark in those parts.  I loved the contrast of the dark stone against the red, autumn foliage, but what made me want to paint this scene was the guy standing at the bottom of the steps.  It was the perfect accent to lend interest to this piece.
